WHAT IS MY PERFECT DAY?

What is a perfect day for a person like me? First of all, in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, perfect is "being without fault or defect." Now basing on that, a day becomes perfect when there is a total absence of fault. But we all know that is impossible. That is why I need to delve deeper into the thought of what I consider to be a perfect day.

We are all familiar with the phrase "nobody is perfect," right? The thing is, nobody is perfect, except for one man. Who? A man named Jesus. Sure, people today dismiss this fact as just some kind of myth or fable, but the Bible is an accurate historical book, preserved for over Fifteen hundred years. From the time of the Old Testament with its Thirty-nine books up until the New Testament with its Twenty-seven, the message has been the same: salvation is by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ. So how does this relate to my perfect day? Everything!

The fact is, the Bible is more than just a historical book. The very words contained in It come not from mere thoughts of finite human beings but come from the infinite and eternal God Himself. The very God who created life breathed forth life into the very words written in the Bible.

Did you know that in the beginning, God created everything perfect? Until man decided to rebel against his Creator, and in so doing plunged everything into ruin. Sin entered, and perfection was lost. Yet even in this, God did not destroy humanity but instead graciously promised that He would send a man to undo all the wrong done and bring back the original state of perfection. God even sacrificed an animal, spilled its blood, and clothed the rebel man with the animal's skin. This God has done to signify forgiveness and acceptance.

From then on, all of God's messengers from the Old Testament pointed to one thing, the promised Messiah. This was the message in all of their prophecies. Yet all the while recording everything in their writings and letters.

Then the day arrived when the Promised One was born in a little town called Bethlehem. The day has finally come when God has fulfilled His promise from the beginning. Jesus, being conceived by the virgin Mary, through the power of the Holy Spirit, was fully human and fully divine. He is the perfect man who can and will restore everything to perfection.

Now the vital question is, how? Remember the definition from Merriam-Webster dictionary: "being without fault or defect." Jesus lived every second of his life as such, without a single fault or sin. In short, Jesus lived a perfect life here on earth. But even in this state, He was falsely accused and falsely condemned to death by those who hated Him. He was sentenced to suffer the worst kind of punishment during that time: Crucifixion. Reserved for the vilest criminals, crucifixion was Rome's most gruesome spectacle of pain and humiliation. But the truth is, Jesus willingly obeyed the will of God to lay down His life for man's sake. Why? Let's rewind a little to the beginning and try to understand that the rebel creature- man- was not punished for his crime. Instead, he was graciously and mercifully promised a way out. And this is the only way out, that a perfect man would suffer in the place of sinful man to restore to perfection those who will Believe in Him.

I understand, that upon believing in Jesus through faith, my sin is crucified on the cross. And at the same time, His perfect life is imputed to me. Now I am restored to perfect communion with God, not from anything I have done, but because of what Jesus has done in my place. Just like in the beginning, when God sacrificed an animal, spilled its blood, and used its skin as covering, so as with Jesus Christ. He became the perfect sacrifice for sin. And through His blood there is cleansing and covering to those who believe.

In a world of trouble and uncertainty, being reminded of this Great Truth gives me perfect peace. And no better way to be reminded than to spend time in the perfect Word of God- The Bible. I certainly would be on my knees, praying and thanking God for all the things He has done for a sinner like me. I long for the day when I will be spending eternity in His Heavenly Kingdom, but until that time comes, I must spend most of my time with my family. For what better way to spend eternal perfection in Heaven than to spend it with family by my side.
